BCS

I haven't had a chance to watch TCU play, but I was able to watch the Boise State game this week against Nevada and we all know how Bama, Texas and Florida are doing. I know Cincinnati is still undefeated but I don't think they will beat Pitt. With the OK State loss that should open the door for Boise State to at least play in a BCS game, I heard the Fiesta Bowl mentioned a lot on the telecast this week, but this still brings up the debate on a playoff. Since most of the larger conferences do a championship game how hard would it be to add 1 to 3 games to their schedule? All they would have to do would be drop a cupcake from their schedule, I would not mind missing Florida beating Charleston-Southern by 59 points. Don't you think that some of the December Bowl games would love to be a playoff instead?

All of the Championship games will be finished by the end of the day next Saturday 12/5, the bowl games start two weeks later on 12/19. Here are the top 8 in the BCS ranking: Florida, Bama, Texas, TCU, Cincinnati, Boise State, Oregon, and Georgia Tech. Tech lost yesterday and will drop with either Ohio State or Iowa moving up, probably Ohio State. If Pitt wins then they will be in instead of Cincinnati. So here would be a possible playoff tree:
Florida vs. Ohio State, Texas vs Oregon, TCU vs. Bama, Cincinnati vs. Boise State (this is assuming that Number 1 Florida wins and Cincinnati wins as well). The first 4 bowl games are as follows:
New Mexico
(MWC vs. WAC)
Albuquerque, N.M.
University Stadium
Dec. 19
4:30 p.m.
ESPN
St. Petersburg
(Big East vs. C-USA)
St. Petersburg, Fla.
Tropicana Field
Dec. 19
8 p.m.
ESPN
R+L Carriers New Orleans
(C-USA vs. Sun Belt)
New Orleans
Louisiana Superdome
Dec. 20
8:30 p.m.
ESPN
MAACO Las Vegas
(MWC vs. Pac-10)
Las Vegas
Sam Boyd Stadium
Dec. 22
8 p.m.
ESPN

So you don't think those cities would love a playoff game instead of Fresno State vs. Wyoming? The next round would be the weekend of or after Christmas, here are the bowl games on the 26th and 27th:
Little Caesars
(Big Ten vs. MAC)
Detroit
Ford Field
Dec. 26
1 p.m.
ESPN
Meineke Car Care
(ACC vs. Big East)
Charlotte, N.C.
Bank of America Stadium
Dec. 26
4:30 p.m.
ESPN
Emerald
(ACC vs. Pac-10)
San Francisco
AT&T Park
Dec. 26
8 p.m.
ESPN
Gaylord Hotels Music City
(ACC vs. SEC)
Nashville, Tenn.
LP Field
Dec. 27
8:30 p.m.
ESPN

You could rotate the games through2 of those bowls every year. That gives the possibility of a losers game for 3/4 and a real championship game this year on Jan 5 and Jan 7. This would mean more money for the colleges from the extra filled bowl games, the cities would love the extra traffic they get as well. We have all seen the mostly empty stadium's for the early bowl games so there is no monetary loss here. The NCAA could pool the money gained at the early games and feed it to the teams or conferences that would be losing money from not having an opportunity to play a bowl game as well, revenue sharing at it's best as they would get more money this way anyway. The money issue is the only reason that this hasn't happened yet and the NCAA would make more anyway. The other reason that has been stated is academic workload, but most if not all of the bowl games are after the school's have their finals anyway.

We all know the system is flawed and that nothing will change unless the NCAA is forced by congress to change it, but wouldn't it be fun to watch these games instead of Bowling Green vs. Southern Miss?

College Football is almost here!!!!!

WOOHOO!!! College football is almost here, I can't wait to watch football Thursday night. OK, so here is the poll:
1Florida (58)0-01498,
2Texas (2)0-01424
3Oklahoma0-01370
4USC0-01313
5Alabama0-01156
6Ohio State0-01113
7Virginia Tech0-01054
8Mississippi0-01047
9Oklahoma State0-0989
9Penn State0-0989
11LSU0-0914
12California0-0746
13Georgia0-0714
14Boise State0-0659
15Georgia Tech0-0593
16Oregon0-0587
17TCU0-0521
18Florida State0-0307
19Utah0-0289
20Brigham Young0-0267
21North Carolina0-0261
22Iowa0-0229
23Notre Dame0-0225
24Nebraska0-0207
25Kansas0-0134
Boise State is out of the picture after their first game against Oregon. Texas is going to get upset at home against LA-Monroe...just kidding, if they don't win by 40 I would be surprised. BYU is also in trouble after playing Oklahoma, in fact I think the only team left to try to get a BCS nod without being a BCS team will be Utah. Of course Florida, Texas, USC, Ohio State, and Penn State are playing cupcakes in their first game (what's new) but it will be fun to watch some of the other games. The Big 12 will probably come down to the Texas vs. Oklahoma game but watch out for Nebraska because they only play Oklahoma and that is late in the season so they have a shot if their are injuries. Florida on paper has the SEC locked up unless Georgia or LSU can take them out with their defense, they don't play anyone else of note...oh wait Tennesee is their third game. Who knows what Monte Kiffin and his son have to offer on D. Hopefully USC loses the Pac-10 to Cal but that will probably be their only competition. The Big 10 looks interesting too if Iowa plays up to their potential, the top three teams actually play each other so that makes it fun, it would be nice to see either Penn State or Iowa to knock off Ohio State.

Tiger Looks Human

Who would have figured that Tiger would lose to a man who has never won a PGA tournament in his career? Tiger looked human and Yang made some amazing shots after making some almost major gaffs. Missing a relatively easy put on 17 to make it a 2 shot lead and then following that with a second shot on 18 that was incredible. I tuned in late and figured Tiger would be pulling out a lead by a couple shots by the time the 18 rolled around and it would be another one of those glorious walks done the fairway to a huge hand. Well he was walking down that fairway, but the hand was for Yang. It was incredible to watch as Tiger fell apart, at least for Tiger, and Yang stayed steady and finished strong. It was nice to see Tiger lose in the final round and look like some of the other golfers that he has faced off against and beaten. At least now they will no longer say that everytime he is in the final group it is a guarunteed win.

Brad Penny

I am just wondering if anybody showed him how to keep a runner close to his bag. I didn't realize that we were supposed to just hand them the extra base(s). Borbon stole 4 bases, 3 of them off of Penny. OK after 1 or 2 maybe we should keep an eye on him, same with Andrus. Borbon had 1 sb going into the game but everyone knew he was fast, except maybe Penny. Penny has given up 27 SB this year, Beckett has given up 12 in more innings. Is it really that difficult to hold a player closer to the bag so that the catcher has a shot at throwing him out? Or is it just that Penny doesn't care?

Red Sox/Rangers

I could have sworn that I heard Tito's bacon sizzling up until Martinez hit that double. I know that putting in a pitcher that is faster than the runner is pretty common place, there had to be a better choice. They had Kotchman on the bench, surely he was faster than Varitek. They won so we should be very happy about that, putting some distance between us and the Rangers, but if you are going to run for Varitek why not as soon as he got to second. I realize that if Woodward gets the bunt down he should make it to 3rd easily, but you never know so why not substute then. We won, so we should be happy with that, but I for one didn't like thet move, Varitek may be slow but he would have read the ball and made sure he wasn't thrown out at home.

Baseball-month and a half to go

Alright, here we go, who will win the AL east (Orioles made a strong start but it was all an illusion). Boston is 5 1/2 back as of today but are finally winning games and have 6 more against the yanks. Even more important with 6 against the Rays can they even make the playoffs with the relief core they have in place. They are looking a little shaky and if the bats go quiet again this could get ugly.

Will the cards win in the central, with every other team looking like they are starting to falter. Better yet can they beat the dodgers in the playoffs?

I don't have much faith that the Mariners will do anything in the wild card or in the West, but I am hoping that Texas beats LA, just because I don't like the Angels.

Browns receiver

So from what I have read about Steptoe's injury he dove for a ball in practice, landed on his shoulder and hurt himself. How does that make it the coaches fault? I have heard of some dumb reasons to blame a coach by an agent but this one is pretty bad. Whether or not it was raining and the coach changed how they were going to practice if he hadn't dived for the ball he never would have injured himself. He tried to make a great play in practice and secure a spot on the team, oh well, if you stay quiet you earn points and make yourself a reason the team may be losing (it is the browns they will be losing a lot), if you blame the coach you look like an idiot.
